MDF 747XP Acoustica Stethoscope

Product Review (submitted on March 7, 2013):

I have been using this scope for the last 5 months as a new RN. I really wanted to get one by that "other" company, but didn't want to spend the money. During school, one of the better sounding scopes I used was a cheapy hanging in the unit, so I thought I'd give this one a try.

I have absolutely no issues hearing with this scope. Are there better ones out there?? Sure. But you'd be hard-pressed to find a more reliable and cheaper alternative.

I did a side-by-side comparison of this versus the Classic II SE. The weight of Acoustica wins hands down. You won't grow tired of this hanging around your neck for 12 hours. As for the sound quality, the Acoustica doesn't reproduce deeper sounds as well as other scopes, so some deeper heart sounds like murmurs might be harder to auscultate. However, unless you're a hardcore Cardiologist, I don't think you're going to need it. And quite frankly, I have no problem detecting common murmurs, as well as valve clicks from artificial valves.

I have no problem doing everyday job functions such as bowel sounds, blood pressures, apical pulses, and lung sounds. Like I said, unless you are in cardiology and specifically need to be able to detect various otherwise undetectable heart sounds, I don't think you need to spend the extra money on a more expensive model.
